Multiple micronutrient supplementation during pregnancy in low-income countries: a meta-analysis of effects on stillbirths and on early and late neonatal mortality.
BACKGROUND Multiple micronutrient deficiencies are common among women in low-income countries and may adversely affect pregnancy outcomes. OBJECTIVE To conduct a meta-analysis of the effects on stillbirths and on early and late neonatal mortality of supplementation during pregnancy with multiple micronutrients compared with iron-folic acid in recent randomized, controlled trials. METHODS Tw...
متن کاملModifiers of the effect of maternal multiple micronutrient supplementation on stillbirth, birth outcomes, and infant mortality: a meta-analysis of individual patient data from 17 randomised trials in low-income and middle-income countries.
BACKGROUND Micronutrient deficiencies are common among women in low-income and middle-income countries. Data from randomised trials suggest that maternal multiple micronutrient supplementation decreases the risk of low birthweight and potentially improves other infant health outcomes. However, heterogeneity across studies suggests influence from effect modifiers. We aimed to identify individual...

OBJECTIVE To systematically review randomized controlled trials comparing the effect of supplementation with multiple micronutrients versus iron and folic acid on pregnancy outcomes in developing countries. METHODS MEDLINE and EMBASE were searched. Outcomes of interest were birth weight, low birth weight, small size for gestational age, perinatal mortality and neonatal mortality. Pooled relat...
متن کاملP-88: The Effect of Micronutrient Supplements on Female Fertility
Background Several recent reviews, based mainly on observational studies, have however identified that micronutrient concentrations in the peri-conception period influence female fertility and embryogenesis, and may prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes. The possible effects on subfertility of two micronutrients(Zinc and Selenium), Components of antioxidant enzymes which are commonly included in or...
متن کاملImpact of zinc supplementation during pregnancy on the anthropometric indices of the newborns
Background: Nutritional status of pregnant mothers is one of the key factors in fetal growth. Micronutrients including Zinc lead to various biological consequences on mother and fetus. We therefore investigated the effect of supplemental zinc sulfate during pregnancy on the newborns weight, height and head circumference. Methods: Using a double-blinded controlled clinical trial, 465 pregnant ...
